Evangeline Lilly Applauds Marvel For The "Really Wise and Profound Messages" Laced Into Their Movies
The story of Ant-Man and The Wasp is about to get extremely crazy in the upcoming Marvel film Ant-Man and The Wasp: Quantumania. This is one of the most highly anticipated films of the year, and I’m pretty excited to see how this story plays out and what kind of ramifications it will have on the future of the MCU.
Franchise star Evangeline Lilly recently sat down for an interview at CinePop where she discussed the franchise and the way Marvel Studios tackles difficult topics. With Ant-Man being a story of redemption, as it centers on a character who was an ex-convict before becoming a superhero, the actress was asked about how she feels about people getting second chances, and she responded:
“Absolutely. One hundred million percent, I also believe that for the most part, it’s poverty that leads to crime. And so, I think that any time you look at the criminal system, and you want to blame somebody, I think you have to turn your head towards the economic system. And if somebody is already a victim of the economic system that doesn’t work for them, they need many chances, and they need someone to fix that economic system, so they have a chance to really make the choices they probably want to make, but maybe can’t.”
Lilly also went on to say that she feels the upcoming Ant-Man sequel tells a story of hope and explains how impressed she is with the wise and profound messages that Marvel Studios manages to weave into their film projects:
“I’m always impressed with the topics that Marvel is willing to tackle in such a like, fluffy popcorn, entertaining movie. You think ‘I’m just getting entertained, it’s just fun, it’s all just good old-fashioned fun,’ but if you really are paying attention to what they’re saying, they have some really deep, really wise and profound messages laced into every movie that they’re making. And they’re very intentional, you know, they know that storytelling shapes the world, and they’re one of the biggest storytellers in the world right now, and that’s a big responsibility.”
Yeah, you can definitely see the messages that Marvel is incorporating into their films.
Ant-Man and The Wasp: Quantumania officially kicks off Phase 5 of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and in it “Super-Hero partners Scott Lang (Paul Rudd) and Hope Van Dyne (Evangeline Lilly) return to continue their adventures as Ant-Man and the Wasp. Together, with Hope’s parents Hank Pym (Michael Douglas) and Janet Van Dyne (Michelle Pfeiffer), the family finds themselves exploring the Quantum Realm, interacting with strange new creatures and embarking on an adventure that will push them beyond the limits of what they thought was possible.”
Jonathan Majors will be taking on the role of Kang, and he’s going to be quite sinister. Kathryn Newton also will take on the role of Cassie Lang, and Bill Murray also has a role in the movie!
Ant-Man and The Wasp: Quantumania is once again being directed by Peyton Reed from a screenplay written by Jeff Loveness. The action-comedy superhero sequel will release on February 17, 2023.
