EVIL DEAD BURN Will Tie Together the Entire Franchise, According to Star Hunter Doohan

The Evil Dead franchise has spent decades expanding its mythology through haunted cabins, cursed books, Deadites, and plenty of blood-soaked chaos. While we already knew that Evil Dead Burn would share connections with Evil Dead Rise, it sounds like the upcoming installment is reaching even deeper into the franchise’s history.

According to Hunter Doohan, who stars in the film, Evil Dead Burn won’t just reference recent events. It will reportedly weave together story elements from across the entire Evil Dead saga, including threads that stretch all the way back to Sam Raimi’s original trilogy.

In a recent interview with Out Magazine, Doohan opened up about his character, Joseph, and hinted at how the film digs into the mythology fans have followed for years.

“Joseph is working on a book about his grandfather’s research,” Doohan reveals. “His grandfather knew Professor Knowby.”

Professor Raymond Knowby sits at the heart of the original Evil Dead mythology. He’s the archaeologist whose discovery of the Necronomicon Ex-Mortis and recordings of its passages unleashed the nightmare that consumed Ash Williams and everyone unfortunate enough to cross paths with the cursed book.

Knowby’s recordings became one of the most iconic elements of the franchise, first appearing in The Evil Dead and later returning in Evil Dead II. His excavation of the Necronomicon from the ruins of Castle Kandar ultimately set the entire series in motion.

That’s why Doohan’s next comments are especially interesting: “I loved how this script not only ties back a little bit to Evil Dead Rise — but this movie connects the lore through the whole franchise, which I found really exciting.”

Evil Dead Burn may serve as one of the franchise’s most mythology-heavy entries yet, creating stronger links between the original films, Evil Dead Rise, and whatever dark horrors await in this new chapter.

Plot details are still being kept mostly under wraps, but the official synopsis paints a grim picture: After the loss of her husband, a woman seeks solace with her in-laws in their secluded family home.

As one by one they are transformed into Deadites—turning the gathering into a family reunion from hell—she comes to discover that the vows she took in life… live on even in death.

That sounds like a nightmare worthy of the Evil Dead name, and now it appears there will be plenty of lore for fans to sink their teeth into as well.

Directed by Sébastien Vaniček, Evil Dead Burn arrives in theaters on July 10, 2026.
