EVIL DEAD Remake Director Fede Álvarez To Helm a Zombie Pandemic Thriller Titled 16 STATES

Lionsgate has acquired a spec script film package for a movie titled 16 States and Evil Dead and Don’t Breathe director Fede Álvarez is attached to helm the project.

The concept for the story deals with a pandemic involving zombies, and it follows a mother trying to reach her family at the center of it. The project has been described as having shades of the Will Smith zombie movie I Am Legend, which was inspired by the classic 1954 novel of the same name.

Writer and producers John Requa and Glenn Ficarra (Crazy, Stupid, Love and Focus) have been shopping the project around Hollywood since last year. It didn’t really gain any traction until the coronavirus hit. I guess the current events of the world made it a timely project and lots of studios wanted a piece of it. Lionsgate is the one that came out the winner.

While a lot of people are hurting from what is going on right now, it’s strange and weird to see some people able to capitalize on it. Regardless, I think Álvarez is a talented filmmaker and I’ve enjoyed the movies he’s made. I’m curious to see what he ends up doing with 16 States.
