EVIL DEAD RISE is "Terrifying" and Will "Knock People's Socks Off" According to Sam Raimi

As a long-time Evil Dead fan, I just can’t help but be excited about director Lee Cronin’s Evil Dead Rise. Producer Bruce Campbell has done his fair share of hyping up the move over the past several months, but now Raimi is looking to build the hype!

In a recent interview wtih /Film, Raimi was asked about the new movie in the Evil Dead franchise, sharing that he has seen a few different cuts of the film, and offered some high praise for it, saying:

"I've seen a rough cut [of 'Evil Dead Rise'], a medium fine cut, and a fine cut. There's probably a few changes that Lee Cronin is making that I haven't seen, but it's great. It's terrifying and it's going to knock people's socks off."

The film is referred to as a sequel to the other Evil Dead movies, and it will move the action out of the woods and into the city. “Evil Dead Rise tells a twisted tale of two estranged sisters, played by Sutherland and Sullivan, whose reunion is cut short by the rise of flesh-possessing demons, thrusting them into a primal battle for survival as they face the most nightmarish version of family imaginable.”

Raimi goes on to explain why they hired Hole in the Ground director Lee Cronin to helm Evil Dead Rise, saying:

"He had always liked 'Evil Dead,' and I loved 'The Hole in the Ground.' And that picture was brought to the executives that I work with and they showed it to me and I thought, this is really a great director. And we met and we talked and he said he really liked 'The Evil Dead.' And I said, then why don't you make the new one? I think you're just the kind [of] guy I'd like to do it. He said, great. Let's go. We put together a script and we gave notes and he made some changes and then we raised money for the movie and he went down to New Zealand to shoot it with my partner, Rob Tapert. Now Bruce Campbell is working with him in post production sound."

When previously talking about the movie, Campbell said Evil Dead Rise is going to be a "much more excruciating" experience from an emotional level. He shared:

"This one's dark, this one's pretty serious. Good, strong performances. It's a single mom who now has to deal with this book. These days it's more about the book. That book gets around, that book is handed around, passed along, people try and get rid of it, they try to bury it or destroy it and they really can't. So this book just keeps popping up, so really it's just another story of what happens if this book appears in this particular group of people's lives and how it intersects."

Evil Dead Rise is expected to hit HBO Max this year. I can’t wait to see how this movie turns out!
