Evil Has Evolved in First Teaser Trailer for Netflix's RESIDENT EVIL
Netflix has released the first trailer for its upcoming series adaptation of the hit zombie apocalypse video game franchise Resident Evil. This comes about a year after that disappointing live-action film reboot. This movie looks like it will be much more entertaining. As a longtime Resident Evil fan, I really hope this series actually ends up being good! So far, I like what little I’ve seen.
The movie definitely looks visually cool and there are some great shots in the trailer, but we’ll just have to wait and see if those visuals come with a decent story and script. This series is going to give us something completely different, and it’s not really based on any of the stories from the games, and it’s not following canon. It’s more like it’s inspired by the franchise.
The movie centers on the children of Albert Wesker, who is portrayed in the series by Lance Reddick. It seems like the movie focuses on Jade Wesker, and it’s set 14 years after a worldwide apocalypse caused by a deadly virus. Here’s the synopsis:
Year 2036 – 14 years after a deadly virus caused a global apocalypse, Jade Wesker fights for survival in a world overrun by the blood-thirsty infected and insane creatures. In this absolute carnage, Jade is haunted by her past in New Raccoon City, by her father's chilling connections to the Umbrella Corporation but mostly by what happened to her sister, Billie."
While the series really isn’t a direct adaptation of any of the other games, I’m keeping an open mind about this series. Who knows? Maybe it will actually be something that fans will enjoy! We’ll just have to wait and see.
The show also stars Ella Balinska, Tamara Smart, Siena Agudong, Adeline Rudolph, Paola Nuñez, Ahad Raza Mir, Connor Gossatti, and Turlough Convery. Andrew Dabb (Supernatural) serves as showrunner/executive producer/writer with Mary Leah Sutton as executive producer/writer.
Resident Evil is set to release on July 14th. What do you think about the new teaser trailer for Netflix's live-action Resident Evil series?
