Ewan McGregor Hopes To Play Obi-Wan Kenobi Again
Ewan McGregor seemed to have a great time returning to the role of Obi-Wan Kenobi for Lucasfilm’s Disney+ series. Unfortunately, a lot of fans ended up being disappointed with the series because it could have and should have been so much better!
When the series was developed, it was only supposed to be one season, and as far as I know, that plan hasn’t changed. But, McGregor does hope that he gets to play Obi-Wan again someday.
During an interview on Disney Studios Awards website, the actor said: "I was so happy to do it again, and so happy to work with Hayden again. I hope we get the chance to do it again."
This isn’t the first time McGregor has expressed interest in returning. He’d be happy to do a second season, saying: “I really hope we do another. If I could do one of these every now and again — I’d just be happy about it.”
Hayden Christensen also said: “Well, it was definitely conceived as a standalone story. But I would love to continue with this character. You know, I think there’s certainly more there to explore and I would be so excited to get to do so…I would certainly be open to [returning for ‘Obi-Wan’ Season 2].”
However, director Deborah Chow and producer Kathleen Kennedy aren’t so sure about continuing the series, with Chow saying: “For this one, we really did conceive it to be a limited series. It really is one big story with a beginning, middle, and end. So, we weren’t thinking past that. I think, you know, if it was to go forward, it would only be if there was a real reason for another one.”
Kennedy added: “Well, frankly, we did set out to do that as a limited series. But I think if there’s huge engagement and people really want more Obi-Wan, we’ll certainly give that consideration because the fans, they speak to us. And if we feel like, ‘OK, there’s a real reason to do this; it’s answering the why then,’ then we’ll do it. But we’ll see.”
If Lucasfilm did move forward with another Obi-Wan season, I think they should get a new creative team. Get Dave Filoni and Bryce Dallas Howard in there! I bet they could help create a great Obi-Wan story!
