Ewan McGregor Hopes to Tell More Obi-Wan Kenobi Stories

Ewan McGregor has been very vocal about wanting to continue to play Obi-Wan Kenobi in a second season of the Lucasfilm and Disney+ series.

While the Obi-Wan Kenobi series could’ve and should’ve been so much better than what it was, McGregor obviously had a great experience playing the character again after playing the character in the Star Wars prequel series.

While speaking to Variety on the occasion of his star being added to the Hollywood Walk of Fame, he continued to share that he hopes to return to the role and feels like there are more stories to tell.

McGregor said: “I loved, more than anything, getting to know Alec Guinness’ work because I was playing him as a young man. Even now with the series, that’s my personal challenge—if a take feels a bit like him, I’m happy.”

He added: “I really do hope we get a chance to do another one. Between where we ended off in the series and when Alec Guinness comes on screen with Luke Skywalker, I think there’s another few stories to tell in there.”

He previously far as to ask fans to write Disney to help make a Season 2 happen, saying: "It was originally gonna be a movie, and I've often thought, should it have been a movie?

“But I kind of think it's great that they did it that way, and it's a longer story, and hopefully, it's more satisfying as a result. We got more time to weave a story. Let's hope they do another one.

“Can everyone write to Disney? I’ll give you some email addresses at the end, and just say, 'Dear Disney, let’s a have a bit more of Obi-Wan Kenobi please.'"

Obi-Wan Kenobi was originally being planned as a trilogy and the plans for the movie actually sounded a lot better than what the series ended up being. You can read all about those original plans here and here.

The Obi-Wan Kenobi series was originally never meant to go beyond one season and as of right now there are currently now plans for a Season 2. But that doesn’t mean we won’t see Kenobi pop up somewhere in a future Star Wars project.
