Ewan McGregor Says There's a "Wave of Positivity" Surrounding The STAR WARS Prequel Trilogy
I’ll tell you what, I gained a newfound respect for George Lucas’ Star Wars prequel trilogy after Lucasfilm’s sequel series. That trilogy of films is a mess. When you watch them all back to back, everything is so disjointed and there’s no real flow to the story. There were also a lot of poor decisions made in regards to the story.
The Phantom Menace, Attack of the Clones, and Revenge of the Sith tell a much better and more cohesive story. There was, at least, a clear vision of where that story was headed.
Obi-Wan Kenobi actor Ewan McGregor recently talked about the prequel trilogy and says he’s seen a "wave of positivity" from a new generation of Star Wars fans who grew up on the prequels. During an interview with Entertainment Weekly, he said:
"Now I meet the people who we made those films for, who were the kids of the time. And our Star Wars films are their Star Wars films. In the way that Carrie Fisher and Alec Guinness and Mark Hamill and Harrison Ford's films were ours, we're theirs. And that's beautiful that they were important to the kids who we made them for. It's just so nice to finally get that wave of positivity about them."
The upcoming Obi-Wan Kenobi series will have some major ties to the prequel trilogy as well as the animated shows that we’ve enjoyed watching such as The Clone Wars and Rebels. Director Deborah Chow revealed:
"The strongest connective tissue for us is to the prequels. Because that's where our characters are coming from and that's where their stories started. So, really, the prequels are the most connected to our series."
The marketing team made sure that fans knew this series was connected to the prequel with that epic John Williams musical score that was pulled from the prequels with “Duel of the Fates” and “Battle of The Heroes”. Damn, I can’t wait to watch that series!
What are your thoughts on the prequels these days?
