Ewan McGregor Wants To Make Another Season of OBI-WAN KENOBI
Lucasfilm’s upcoming Obi-Wan Kenobi series is a limited series that is only supposed to be a one-off show. But, Ewan McGregor, who reprises his role as Obi-Wan in the series, doesn’t feel like he’s done yet and would like to make another one!
During a recent interview with Entertainment Weekly, McGregor said: "It was made as a one-off limited series. And in a way, it does do what I wanted it to do in terms of bridging a story between [Episode 3] and [Episode 4] and bringing me closer to Alec Guinness' Obi-Wan in A New Hope." He then went on to add, however, that he "would like to make another one."
While he is open to continuing this story, Obi-Wan Kenobi series writer Joby Harold and director Deborah Chow aren’t so sure.
Harold said: "Yeah, I don't know about it being a story beyond the story we're telling now. With these things, we always think of it as a complete story with the beginning and a middle and an end.”
Chow added: "It was definitely conceived as a limited series and it is one big story with a beginning, middle, and end. So that's the way we've always approached it."
While it doesn’t sound like there are any plans for another Obi-Wan Kenobi series beyond this six-episode limited-series, never say never. If it’s a big success, maybe there will be more. We’ll just have to wait and see.
The story in this new series begins 10 years after the dramatic events of Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith, where Obi-Wan Kenobi faced his greatest defeat—the downfall and corruption of his best friend and Jedi apprentice, Anakin Skywalker, who turned to the dark side as the evil Sith Lord Darth Vader.
When previously talking about the purpose of this story, McGregor said: "It was to start off with him in a very different place, to take this character that we know and love from Alec Guinness's performance in the 70s, to the work that I did through Episodes 1 to 3, this Jedi Master, and take him to a really broken place.”
The series also stars Hayden Christensen as Darth Vader, and Moses Ingram plays the galaxy's newest villain Reva. Rupert Friend is also in the series and plays the Grand Inquisitor, while Sung Kang plays the Fifth Brother. Joel Edgerton, Bonnie Piesse, Kumail Nanjiani, Indira Varma, O’Shea Jackson Jr., Simone Kessell, and Benny Safdie also star.
The first two episodes of Star Wars: Obi-Wan Kenobi land on Disney+ on May 27th.
