EXODUS: GODS and KINGS — Featurettes on Costume Design and Locations

We have two new featurettes that go behind the scenes of production on Exodus: Gods and Kings. These videos focus on the costume design and the locations used in the film.

Exodus has not been without controversy due to the perceived white-washing of the starring cast versus background characters. This has split GeekTyant readers into 3 camps — supporters of the casting, detractors, and the ambivalent. The supporters seem to be the most vocal, but the detractors far outnumber the other 2 camps.

Ridley Scott is a great filmmaker but I'm personally bummed by the insensitivity of the casting. Scott is a master of the details, and this is not something that feels like an oversight. I'm still on the fence about watching the movie. I don't want to support a status quo that advances racial insensitivity. But the film geek in me will watch anything Scott makes (I'm looking at you A Good Year).

All this aside there are lots of talented people working on the film not involved in casting decisions. Janty Yates' costume design is a step beyond the work that was done in Cecil B Demille's The Ten Commandments. The featurette on the costumes gets into all the hard work involved in the research and creation. The locations featurette talks about why they picked the places they shot and shows what some of the sets look like before CGI set extension.

Exodus: Gods and Kings be in theaters December 12 (USA).
