Experience a Virtual LARP Experience with Mirror World Creations
Some people like to participate in live-action role play (or LARP). However, during the COVID-19 pandemic, it has been hard to have those experiences. Mirror World Creations has something for some people to enjoy that’s in a similar vein. The roleplay studio recently released six LARP experiences that you can experience via phone and video chat. Each one has a different premise and requires a different amount of time ranging from 20-90 minutes with prices reflecting the time commitments. Elizabeth Isaacson, the founder of Mirror World Creations, explains:
Although it may look a little different than what most of us are used to, we wanted to find an innovative way to still be totally inclusive while offering a range of LARP experiences that were easy to navigate from the comfort of the participants home. So, we came up with the phone adventure, which is a piece of intimate, immersive theater that you will play out with just you and an actor via text message or phone call. All sessions will be booked directly between you and the performer, who will contact you via a phone number provided beforehand. No preparation or research is necessary, and once the adventure starts, you will be able to steer the experience – with the conclusion of the story solely depending on you and the choices you make.
These are definitely an interesting idea and you can even choose to go on the adventure with a partner. You can find more information and purchase one of the LARP experiences on the Mirror World Creations website.
Gremlin! ($15, 20 minutes): Magic is real; at least, that is what the hyperactive gremlin who just called you on the telephone says. He is yelling about witches and saying that you are his only hope of escaping magical captivity, but he claims he can teach you sorcery and his instructions are bizarre. Throughout this scenario, you will help the gremlin discover a secret world of witchcraft and potentially, learn some magic yourself.
The Midnight Market ($40, 45 minutes): For hundreds of years, the Fair Folk have run the Midnight Market, selling curses, charms and cloaks of dreams to those unwise enough to buy. Now, they've discovered time zones and telephones, and are bringing the Midnight Market to you. If they've called you, they're sure to have your heart's desire, but only one question remains - what will you sell in exchange?
Outpost Omicron ($52, 90 minutes): There’s been a murder in Outpost Omicron, the United States’ Navy underwater base, and you’re the consulting detective who’s been called upon to solve it. You’ve got 90 minutes on the phone to interview the crew before atmospheric conditions disconnect you. There’s gossip to sort through, a blueprint to peruse and camera footage (which of course they can’t send you). The scientists and crewmembers are counting on you: can you find the murderer in time?
The Girl on the Phone ($40, 45 minutes): Irene is trapped in Caracas, kidnapped by corrupt police. She finds a mobile phone but now, she needs your help to escape. "The Girl On The Phone" is a 60-90 minute immersive experience which includes a set of texts and phone calls between you and a kidnapped tourist with a scavenged mobile phone. Over the course of the experience, you'll use the resources you have on-hand to help Irene escape her captors and comfort her during a crisis.
Fragile Recall ($49.99, 1 hour): Famed psychic Genesis Mahabini knows all, sees all and tells all. In this sixty-minute phone call, she claims she can help you chat up your previous incarnation - but is the sad woman she sends you to really someone you once were? If not, what does she need and why does she care so much about you as her legacy?
The Other Side of the Line ($40, 45 minutes): This immersive experience highlights a phone call between you and your fictional friend’s cousin, Karen. Over the course of a phone call, you'll have the chance to engage with Karen's beliefs, and perhaps even persuade her to engage with yours. An exercise in patience and empathy, this experience focuses on interacting with harmful perspectives in a constructive way.
