EXTRACTION 3 Locks In Chris Hemsworth, Sam Hargrave, and Returning Cast for Netflix Action Sequel

Netflix is officially gearing up for another round of bone-crunching action as Extraction 3 moves forward with Chris Hemsworth returning to the role of Tyler Rake, and Sam Hargrave back in the director’s chair.

The returning lineup also includes Idris Elba and Golshifteh Farahani, keeping the core team intact as the franchise continues to build momentum. Production is aiming to kick off this summer, with David Weil handling the screenplay.

Details on the story are being kept tightly guarded, but if the previous films are anything to go by, fans can expect another intense mission packed with brutal fight sequences and high-stakes rescues. Rake and his crew are heading into yet another dangerous extraction, and nothing about this series suggests it’ll pull punches.

The franchise has already proven itself as a major win for Netflix. When Extraction dropped in 2020, it landed at exactly the right time, becoming a massive hit while audiences were stuck at home during the COVID lockdowns.

It quickly climbed into Netflix’s Most Popular Films list and turned Hemsworth’s Rake into a fan-favorite action hero. The film even picked up two Critics Choice nominations, including Best Action Movie and Best Actor in an Action Movie for Hemsworth.

Then came Extraction 2, which pushed things even further. Not only did it top the original’s streaming numbers, it also doubled down on the over-the-top action and long-take fight sequences that fans loved.

Of course, getting there required a bit of narrative flexibility, considering Rake appeared to die at the end of the first film. Still, audiences didn’t seem to mind that at all.

The creative team behind the scenes remains just as strong. Anthony Russo, Joe Russo, Angela Russo-Otstot, Michael Disco, and Ari Costa are producing through AGBO, with Hemsworth and Benjamin Grayson producing for Wild State.

The project continues to draw from the graphic novel Ciudad by Ande Parks, based on a story developed with the Russos, and illustrated by Fernando Leon Gonzalez. Steven V. Scavelli is serving as executive producer.

Hargrave has teased the possibility of a third film for a while, but aligning schedules for a cast like this isn’t easy. Hemsworth in particular has had a packed slate, recently promoting his Amazon MGM Studios project Crime 101. Even so, the new script reportedly got him fired up enough to lock this one in.

Outside of Extraction, Hemsworth and Grayson’s Wild State continues to expand with a mix of film, TV, and digital projects, including Limitless and the upcoming Corsair Code.

AGBO’s partnership with Netflix also isn’t slowing down. The companies recently revealed a couple of new projects, including a series led by Omar Sy and a South Korean feature titled Tygo, starring. Their previous collaboration, The Gray Man, still ranks among Netflix’s biggest hits with 139.3 million views.

With Hemsworth back in action and Hargrave calling the shots again, this next chapter is shaping up to deliver exactly what fans are hoping for: bigger fights, tougher missions, and a hero who just won’t stay down.
