Sebastian Stan Says Fans Should Prepare for Heartbreak in AVENGERS: DOOMSDAY

Sebastian Stan is back in the MCU as Bucky Barnes, and it sounds like Avengers: Doomsday could be putting fans through the emotional wringer.

Stan, who returns as the Winter Soldier in the upcoming Marvel movie, recently talked about the film while speaking with Decider, and he made it clear that he hasn’t seen the finished version yet.

So, even he isn’t totally sure what Marvel Studios and the Russo brothers have cooked up.

“I haven’t seen the movie, and I don’t know how it turned out,” the actor admitted while speaking with Decider. “I’m sure it’s going to be probably heartbreaking, in a lot of ways. We’ll see who makes it to the next level.”

That’s exactly the kind of comment that sends Marvel fans into speculation mode. After everything that went down in Avengers: Endgame, fans know these massive team-up movies can come with big losses, and Stan’s tease about “who makes it” definitely makes it sound like Doomsday won’t be holding back.

Stan also talked about what it was like stepping back into this world and reuniting with the Marvel cast after so many years of playing Bucky Barnes.

“It was very nostalgic to look back and think about all of these years that we’ve known each other and grew up together. It’s incredible in that way,” he said. “It’s been a family, and it never stops being that way.”

That history goes all the way back to Captain America: The First Avenger, where Stan first appeared as Bucky in 2011.

From there, he went on to become a major part of the MCU through Captain America: The Winter Soldier, Captain America: Civil War, Avengers: Infinity War, and several other Marvel projects.

He isn’t the only Doomsday cast member who seems unsure of what the final movie will actually look like.

Alan Cumming, who is returning as Nightcrawler after first playing the mutant superhero in X2: X-Men United back in 2003, recently admitted that the story is still a bit of a mystery to him.

“To be honest, I don’t fully understand the plot.” Cumming also said that most of his scenes were shot “in front of a blue screen,” which isn’t too surprising for a movie this huge, especially one that’s bringing together Marvel heroes, legacy characters, mutants, and who knows what else.

Part of that uncertainty may come from the way Joe Russo and Anthony Russo approached the script while making the film. Joe recently explained to the Associated Press that they don’t treat the script as something locked in stone.

“We always view the script as a living organism,” Joe told the Associated Presslast month. “We’re improvisation-based, rehearsal-based directors.

“We like to see what the actors bring to the characters, and sometimes you don’t get the actors until a few days or few weeks before you shoot them. And a lot of the time, that’s when the magic happens.”

That approach worked out pretty well for the Russos before with Captain America: The Winter Soldier, Civil War, Infinity War, and Endgame, so it makes sense that Marvel would trust them to steer another giant event movie.

Still, when even the actors are unsure of the full picture, it only makes the mystery around Avengers: Doomsday even more fun to chew on.

Bucky has already been through hell in the MCU, and if Doomsday really is as heartbreaking as he thinks it might be, Marvel fans could be in for another brutal ride when the next Avengers movie finally arrives.
