F9: THE FAST SAGA Tried to Get Denzel Washington to Play Vin Diesel's Dad in the Film

It turns out that the creative team behind F9: The Fast Saga was looking to get an A-list actor to play Vin Diesel’s dad in the film, and that actor is Denzel Washington. This bit of movie trivia came from Fast & Furious star Sung Kang, who plays Han in the franchise.

Kang recently talked to Screen Rant and shared the following, “There was talk that Denzel Washington was going to be in our film, and I think he was initially maybe going to play Vin’s dad, or something like that? I’m a huge Denzel fan, so I would love to see him again, and share the screen with him, so someone like him. And then early on, a similar question was asked, 'Does this person have to be alive? Can it be a dead person?'“

Obviously, things didn’t work out with getting Washington in on the Fast and Furious action in F9. In the end, the role of Dom Toretto’s father was played by Mayan M.C.’s J.D. Pardo. He didn’t really have a big role in the movie, so it makes sense as to why that Washington didn’t jump on board.

Who knows, though. There are two more movies coming. Maybe they will try to get him on board to play a different character. It’s not hard to imagine Denzel Washington in the Fast and Furious franchise.
