Facebook Just Announced A Feature That Will Block Spoilers On Your Feed
It's something that's happened to even the best of us. You can't get to a theater/TV show when a majority of the world does, and one simple Facebook comment spoils the whole thing for you. It's frustrating enough that many people enact the "no social media," rule and try to stay off the web until they've seen what they want to watch. That's a good rule of thumb to have in general, although it may soon be unnecessary as Facebook's Ricky Van Veen announced the company is currently testing a new feature that will make the "no social media," rule obsolete. Veen explained how the new feature works at the opening-day keynote at NATPE (via Deadline):
“If you haven’t seen Episode 5 yet, you won’t see your friend’s comment on Episode 5. Those are really easy things to do that no one has really done yet because it’s hard when you’re having conversation and viewing in two different places. Hopefully, we can make some of those value-adds for the Facebook viewer and the TV viewer come together."
The upcoming Facebook feature definitely sounds more cutting edge, but Van Veen isn't necessarily correct in saying this isn't something anyone has done before. Not too long ago, Twitter added the option to hide words from its feed which has been a handy tool for any users wishing to hide mentions about things they'd rather not see in their timeline. Facebook's new feature sounds a little more specific, although we won't be able to see just how good it is at hiding spoilers until we see it in action. How do you feel about this new tech? Do you think it'll be of use to you in the future?
