Fangoria Studios Partners With Junji Ito To Develop Three Live-Action Feature Film Adaptations

Fangoria Studios is partnering up with legendary horror mangaka Junji Ito to produce three live-action feature film projects. Those films include Bloodsucking Darkness, The Mystery Of The Haunted House Part 1, and The Mystery Of The Haunted House Part 2.

In the Junji Ito stories, “Bloodsucking Darkness follows a girl with an eating disorder who vomits blood and is stalked by vampire bats, while The Mystery Of The Haunted House revolves around two friends who must escape a ghostly home and its demented proprietor. The tales originate from the Smashed: Junji Ito Story Collection.”

All three vampire projects are set to go into development this summer, with production targeting 2025 and 2026.

Ito will serve as producer alongside Armen Aghaeian, Tara Ansley, and Abhi Goel of Fangoria Studios, Yasu Kutami and Tsubasa Yamaguchi of Amuse Group USA and Aditya Chand and Jay Van Hoy of TTLE. Indie producer Carlos Aguirre, who brokered the deal, will serve as executive producer.

While we wait for these live-action films to be released, Adult Swim has a mini-series based on the supernatural horror manga coming, titled Uzumaki.

Written and illustrated by Ito, the original manga series told the story of the citizens of Kurōzu-cho, a fictional city that is plagued by a supernatural curse involving spirals.
