FANTASTIC BEASTS Director David Yates Says The Sequel "Takes The Story in a Whole New Direction"
It sounds like David Yates is going all-in on the Harry Potter cinematic universe. The director helmed the last four films in the traditional Potter series, he directs this year's Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, and now it seems that he's going to direct the sequel to that movie as well, which J.K. Rowling has already written. In a new interview with EW (that also included a new photo, seen above), Yates gives some hints about what we can expect from Fantastic Beasts 2:
“We’ve seen the script for Part 2, for the second movie, which takes the story in a whole new direction – as you should, you don’t want to repeat yourself. The second movie introduces new characters as she builds this part of the Harry Potter universe further. It’s a very interesting development from where we start out. The work is pouring out of her.”
It's tough to really know what that means at this point since we haven't seen the first movie yet, but it's good that Rowling is continuing to push herself and build out the universe beyond what she's already done. There's clearly a ton of untapped potential there. Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them hits theaters on November 18, 2016, and the sequel doesn't have an official release date yet.
