Fantastic First Trailer for Netflix's Sci-Fi Fantasy Robot Anime Series EDEN
Netflix has released the first trailer for its upcoming original Japanese anime series Eden, and it looks like a great show! It looks like a beautiful and cool series that is set in a world that is completely inhabited by robots… except for one human child that is found by two robots.
The story for the sci-fi fantasy series is set thousands of years in the future, in “a world which has been inhabited by robots for centuries, their human creators have gone extinct long ago, most of the robots of the mechanical metropolis Eden 3 don’t even believe humans ever actually existed. Most consider them as creatures of myth.”
Then, on an otherwise normal day, “two ordinary farming robots heading to the fields stumble across a cryogenic pod containing a young human girl. In a world that is definitively not ready for human reintegration, the two secretly raise Sara into young adulthood, opposed along the way by the horrifyingly ominous-looking Zero and his army of black and red robot soldiers.”
Series creator and Qubic Pictures CEO and producer Justin Leach first came up with the idea for this project 20 years ago, and as he was slowly developing it he was also working on projects like Ghost in the Shell, Star Wars: The Clone Wars, and Ice Age. He was eventually given the opportunity to bring his story to life and now here it is!
It’s explained that a major theme in the film is the “balance between the high-tech robot characters and the natural world around them, which they go to great pains to protect.” It also plays on that theme demonstrating “equilibrium in composition between tech and nature.” You’ll see this in the trailer.
I really like what I’m seeing in this footage, and I’m totally sold on watching it. Eden was directed by Yasuhiro Irie (Fullmetal Alchemist, Mobile Fighter G Gundam) for Qubic Pictures and CGCG. The character and lead concept designs were created by Toshihiro Kawamoto (Cowboy Bebop, Blood Blockade Battlefront) and Christophe Ferreisr. The script was written by Kimiko Ueno (Space Dandy).
Netflix will release Eden in May 2021.
