Fascinating and Breathtaking Trailer for Werner Herzog's Latest National Geographic Documentary GHOST ELEPHANTS
A trailer has been released for the beautifully shot and fascinating National Geographic documentary Ghost Elephants, from renowned filmmaker Werner Herzog (Grizzly Man, Encounters at the End of the World, Cave of Forgotten Dreams, Into the Abyss, Into the Inferno, Meeting Gorbachev). It takes place in the highlands of Angola, Africa, where deep within its forests, a mystery endures: the elusive ghost elephants of Lisima, the potential only living descendants of the largest land mammal ever recorded.
It features Dr. Steve Boyes, a conservation biologist and leader of the National Geographic Okavango Wilderness Project, who's determined to prove their existence.
The full synopsis reads: “For over a decade, Dr. Steve Boyes, conservation biologist and National Geographic Explorer, has been in search of a mysterious, elusive herd of Ghost Elephants in the highlands of Angola, deep within its forests.
“From acclaimed director Werner Herzog, Ghost Elephants follows Boyes on an epic journey as he sets out with some of the best master trackers left in the world, in pursuit of a mysterious animal long believed to be a myth.”
Ghost Elephants premiered at the 2025 Venice Film Festival, and it’s set to be released in select US theaters on February 27th, with Disney+ releasing it to stream in March. Check out the trailer below:
