The Safdie Bros. Producing a Feature Documentary About the Life and Career of Comedian Andy Kaufman

A new documentary feature is in the works that will follow the life and career of comedian, actor, and performance artist, Andy Kaufman. His life was previously documented in the film Man On the Moon, in which Jim Carrey brilliantly took on the persona(s) of the late Kaufman.

Emmy-nominated Alex Braverman (Gaycation, The Mind of a Chef) will direct the feature doc. Elara Pictures, the production company led by Josh and Benny Safdie, will executive produce alongside Rick Rubin and Chuck Braverman, as well as Morgan Neville. Kaufman’s key creative partners, Lynn Margulies Osgood and writing partner Bob Zmuda will appear in the film.

Kaufman, who died in 1984 after a battle with cancer, secured legendary comedy status as a sensational comedian and performance artist best known for playing Latka Gravas, an immigrant auto mechanic on the sitcom Taxi.

The doc has just begun production. I grew up watching Kaufman on Taxi, and I loved the movie Man on the Moon. I look forward to watching this, and getting even more background into the mind of Kaufman.
