Felicity Jones Explains How Her ROGUE ONE Character Is an Unlikely Heroine, Plus a New Photo
Last week we got a new full trailer of Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, and fans were blown away by it. The trailer offered us an awesome tease at what’s in store for us. I can’t wait to see this movie, but it’s not like I have a choice.
Thanks to EW, we have a new photo to share with you of Felicity Jones’ character Jyn Erso, and she also gave an interview in which she talked about the type of character that she's playing. Director Gareth Edwards also had a few things to say about why he cast Jones in the role.
She began by talking about one of her initial meetings Edwards saying:
“We were both working at the time and we met at something like 5:30 a.m. in a hotel restaurant. Most of the meeting was conducted in whispers as he explained the story and the character. My first introduction was definitely one shrouded in secrecy and being very careful no one overheard what we were talking about.”
When talking about her character, Jyn Erso, she explained why she is an "unlikely heroine."
“She is absolutely a very unlikely heroine. She’s someone on the edges and fringes of society. Physically, she’s smaller than everyone else around her, but… when someone has something they believe in, that’s what powers them, that’s what motivates them, that’s what can give someone enormous strength.”
I’ve gotta say, Jones looks amazing in this role, and it seems like she’s a perfect fit for this character. While talking to EW, Edwards talked about why he ended up casting Jones in the role saying he chose her because she wasn’t “so kick-ass and shields-up that the audience couldn’t empathize with her.” He went on to say:
“There were a lot of people who could learn how to fight and beat people up and do the physical side of it. For me, the most interesting thing is when there’s a crack in the armor, when you can glimpse the vulnerability in someone. You can just hang the camera on Felicity and not say a word, and you can feel her having a million different thoughts. You get interested in what she’s thinking and what’s going on. She can be very observant within a scene. It doesn’t always have to be about her directly, but we’re experiencing it through her. She just has that knack for pulling you in.”
There’s still so much that we don’t know about this movie and Jyn Erso, but whatever it is that is going to be revealed in the story, I’m convinced that it’s gonna be awesome!
