Film Quest Review: FOLLOW HER is a Wild Social Media Psycho-Sexual Thriller Movie
We live in a day and age where social media is taking over people’s lives. The world is filled with influencers creating content that sucks the life out of people. But those influencers in the world thrive off those likes and follows!
I recently watched a movie at the FilmQuest film festival titled Follow Her, which takes the world of social media and influencers and turns it on its head with a wild and crazy psycho-sexual thriller story.
The movie is described as a “nail-biting, seat-squirming, stylish suspense thriller.” But it also tells an intense story, with good acting, and also a good amount of fun humor.
The story centers on a struggling actress and live streamer who has finally found her hook of secretly starting to filming creepy interactions that she encounters through online job listings, and using the kinks of others to fuel her streaming success.
The bulk of the story follows the actress as “she’s been hired to write the ending of a screenplay in a remote, lavish cabin. Once there, the alluring self-proclaimed screenwriter hands her a script in which the two of them are the main characters. This client isn’t what he seems, and even though the money’s great… the real payment here could cost her life.”
The first half of the story does a great job setting up the main character, but things really kick into high gear in the second half of the movie. Things get absolutely bonkers and there are unexpected twists that I especially enjoyed. Those surprising and cool story elements are what made the movie so disturbingly unique because you have no idea what’s coming!
The movie was directed by Sylvia Caminer, who did a fantastic job bringing this story to life. The cast includes Dani Barker, Luke Cook, Eliana Jones, Mark Moses, and Cristala Carter. I included the trailer for you to watch below.
I enjoyed the film and I hope that you get a chance to watch it one day.
