FilmQuest Review: INFLUENCER is a Fantastic and Intriguing Social Media Thriller
While attending the FilmQuest film festival this past week, I caught a social media-inspired thriller titled Influencer, and this was an incredibly well-made film with a tight script, great acting, and an engaging interesting story that kept me on the edge of my seat.
This is a low-budget indie film, but it certainly doesn’t feel like it! This film felt like it should be a major motion picture. The movie tells the kind of crazy and unexpected story that audiences would enjoy watching!
The movie is a murder thriller that follows a social media influencer named Madison who embarks on a solo backpacking trip in Thailand. On her journey, she meets another young woman named CW and the two seem to hit it off as friends. CW travels with ease and shows Madison a more uninhibited way of living. But, CW’s interest in her takes a dark and unexpected turn.
It’s hard to get more in-depth with the story without spoiling anything. But, the movie did not play out the way I thought it would and I loved it for that. The story played out so much better than how I expected it was going to go. It was very inventive in the way the story unfolded.
Influencer was masterfully written and directed by Kurtis David Harder. I would love to see what this guy could do with an actual feature film budget. In fact, the movie was so good that it won several awards at the festival including Best Director.
I have no idea when or if any of you will actually get to see this movie outside of the film festival circuit, but I sure hope that you do! It’s just such a good story that takes audiences on a pretty crazy and dark ride. I especially enjoyed how the movie ended up coming to an end.
