FINAL DESTINATION 6 Will Change Up the Franchise Formula, But It Will Be a "True Final Destination Movie"
There’s another Final Destination film in development with producer Jon Watts (Cop Car, Spider-Man: No Way Home) developing it with Lori Evans Taylor (Wicked Wicked Games) and Guy Busick (Scream 2021) writing it.
Final Destination 6 is going to change things up a lot as the story will not involve the formula that the franchise beat to death over the first five films. Franchise creator Jeffrey Reddick shared this news in an interview with Dread Central, saying
“I will say that it’s not just going to be another kind of ‘we set up a group of people, they cheat death, and then just death gets them.’ And there’s one wrinkle that we kind of added to every movie to kind of like change it up a little bit: this one is… a true Final Destination movie, but it doesn’t follow that kind of formula that we’ve kind of established.”
He went on to say, “I’m really excited with the story that I can’t tell you about.” I’ve actually enjoyed the Final Destination movies and I’m curious about this new kind of story and what the creative team will be doing differently this next time around. Each of the previous films focuses on “Death” hunting down people who survive a mass casualty event.
New Line Cinema is producing the film alongside Dianne McGunigle (Cop Car) as well as Final Destination producers Craig Perry and Sheila Hanahan Taylor. This will be the sixth installment will be the first in the franchise in over ten years.
