FINAL DESTINATION: BLOODLINES Slays the Box Office with $100M+ Global Debut

The Final Destination franchise just reminded Hollywood that death still sells.

Final Destination: Bloodlines, the latest chapter in the long-running horror saga, blew past expectations this weekend with a worldwide launch of $102 million.

That includes $51 million domestically and another $51 million from 74 international markets. It’s the best opening in franchise history, by a lot, and positions Bloodlines to become the highest-grossing installment in the series to date.

If you’ve been following this franchise since it started back in 2000, you know the formula: someone cheats death, and then death throws a tantrum and starts taking people out in the most elaborate, Rube Goldberg-machine-style ways imaginable.

This time around, directors Adam Stein and Zach Lipovsky take things in a twisted new direction, zeroing in on a cursed family whose matriarch was never supposed to survive a tragedy five decades earlier. One by one, her descendants start dying.

Thanks to strong word of mouth and solid reviews, the film caught fire with horror fans. It’s a great movie, and one that is best experienced in theaters with a big crowd!

I’m sure this makes Warner Bros. happy as it continues their hot streak with hits like A Minecraft Movie and Sinners, which are still going strong. Minecraft pulled another $8.3 million in its seventh weekend, pushing it to $928 million worldwide. Meanwhile, Sinners added $3.8 million internationally, reaching a global haul of $316 million.

Elsewhere in the box office, Disney-Marvel’s Thunderbolts* added $15.7 million in its third weekend, bringing its worldwide total to $325.7 million.

If you saw Final Destination: Bloodlines this weekend, what did you think!?
