FINAL FANTASY VII: REVELATION Officially Announced as the Epic Conclusion to the Remake Trilogy, Watch the Trailer!

Square Enix has finally pulled back the curtain on the third and final chapter of its Final Fantasy VII remake saga, revealing Final Fantasy VII: Revelation as the game that will bring Cloud Strife’s long journey to an end.

The announcement arrived during Summer Game Fest where fans were treated to the first trailer and gameplay footage from the highly anticipated RPG.

The presentation also featured Matthew Mercer, who will lend his voice to Vincent Valentine after making his debut as the character in Final Fantasy VII Rebirth.

Set to launch in Spring 2027, Final Fantasy VII: Revelation will arrive simultaneously on PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch 2, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. The release also lines up with the 30th anniversary of the original Final Fantasy VII, making it an especially fitting moment for the story’s grand finale.

The new trailer teases the massive conflict awaiting Cloud and his allies as they push toward their final confrontation with Sephiroth. Following the emotional events of Rebirth, the stakes have never been higher, and Square Enix is clearly aiming to deliver the biggest adventure in the trilogy.

According to the official game description: “In this climactic conclusion, Cloud Strife and his loyal companions face a world that teeters on the brink of annihilation.

“Grieving a beloved ally, and with their nemesis Sephiroth nearing godhood, the party takes to the skies aboard the airship Highwind in a race against time to stop Meteor, the ultimate destructive magic, and the total obliteration of the planet.

“With deft gunslinger Vincent Valentine and cantankerous pilot Cid Highwind aboard, the heroic team will journey freely across the entire planet and explore expansive new areas, harness a new job system in combat and forge unbreakable bonds to overcome the greatest threat they’ve ever faced.”

Fans have been eager to see how Square Enix would handle the world-spanning freedom of the original game, and it sounds like Revelation will finally open things up in a major way.

The mention of a brand-new job system also suggests the combat experience could evolve significantly beyond what players saw in Remake and Rebirth.

Director Naoki Hamaguchi shared his excitement about finally unveiling the concluding chapter, saying: “I’m beyond excited to announce Final Fantasy VII: Revelation, launching simultaneously across all platforms in Spring 2027.

“I’m truly grateful to our fans who believed in this story and supported us for so many years. In this title, centered around ‘resolve,’ Cloud and his companions will confront their respective convictions and continue their journey towards the final battle that will determine the planet’s fate.

“All the stories and emotions accumulated over the years will culminate in the most satisfying way with this experience, brought to you as the series’ final chapter. Please look forward to it.”

That focus on “resolve” offers an interesting clue about the game’s themes. While Remake challenged destiny and Rebirth explored identity, Revelation appears set to bring every character arc, conflict, and emotional thread together as the heroes prepare for a battle that will decide the future of the planet itself.

For fans who started this journey with Final Fantasy VII Remake back in 2020, the announcement marks the beginning of the end. Square Enix has spent years rebuilding one of gaming’s most beloved stories on a massive scale, and Final Fantasy VII: Revelation looks poised to deliver the payoff.

With the Highwind finally taking flight, Vincent Valentine joining the action as a full party member, new gameplay systems on the horizon, and Sephiroth inching closer to godhood, the road to 2027 is shaping up to be an exciting one for Final Fantasy VII fans.
