Final Trailer for Christopher Nolan’s THE ODYSSEY Offers an Epic Look at the Legendary Greek Adventure

The final trailer has been released for Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey, and the filmmaker is heading into completely new territory with it. This isn't just another historical epic, it looks like Nolan has crafted an enormous fantasy adventure that brings Homer's legendary tale to life on a scale we've never seen before.

The trailer give us the most impressive look yet at Nolan's ambitious adaptation of one of the greatest stories ever told. The film arrives in theaters and IMAX on July 17, 2026, and if this latest footage is any indication, audiences are in for a massive cinematic event.

Matt Damon stars as Odysseus, the King of Ithaca, whose long and dangerous journey home following the Trojan War has captivated readers for thousands of years.

After helping secure victory at Troy, Odysseus faces an endless series of impossible obstacles as he fights to return to his wife, Penelope, and his son, Telemachus.

Along the way, he encounters terrifying monsters, angry gods, devastating shipwrecks, powerful temptations, and countless challenges that stand between him and home.

The new trailer expands the film's scope in exciting ways. We get a much better look at Damon's battle-worn Odysseus, Charlize Theron's mysterious Calypso, and the stunning Trojan Horse sequence that Universal has already teased as one of the film's biggest practical achievements.

According to the studio, the sequence was created with thousands of soldiers, making it one of the production's most impressive large-scale set pieces.

Nolan has spent years pushing the limits of large-format filmmaking, but The Odyssey reaches a milestone unlike anything he's accomplished before. Universal says the movie is the first feature ever shot entirely with IMAX cameras using brand-new IMAX film technology.

After years of working around the size and limitations of the format, Nolan and cinematographer Hoyte van Hoytema were finally able to use lighter IMAX cameras while filming across Greece, Morocco, Italy, Iceland, and Scotland.

Speaking about the project, Nolan described making the film as a "longest-held ambition," explaining why Homer's work continues to resonate after thousands of years: "It's not a story—it’s the story."

Alongside Damon, the film stars Tom Holland as Telemachus, Anne Hathaway as Penelope, Robert Pattinson as Antinous, Lupita Nyong'o as Helen of Troy and Clytemnestra, Zendaya as Athena, Himesh Patel as Eurylochus, Mia Goth as Melantho, John Leguizamo as Eumaeus, Jon Bernthal as Menelaus, and Benny Safdie as Agamemnon.

The ensemble also features Elliot Page, Bill Irwin, Samantha Morton, Jesse Garcia, Will Yun Lee, Rafi Gavron, Shiloh Fernandez, Corey Hawkins, Nick E. Tarabay, Jimmy Gonzales, Maurice Compte, Michael Vlamis, Iddo Goldberg, Josh Stewart, Ryan Hurst, Anthony Molinari, Jovan Adepo, Logan Marshall-Green, James Remar, Travis Scott, Sean Avery, and Ian Casselberry.

The Odyssey sails into theaters and IMAX everywhere on July 17, 2026. Watch the incredible new trailer below.
