FIREFLY is Making a Comeback in the Form of a Book Series and Joss Whedon is Involved

I've got some exciting news for Firefly fans! Like all of you, I've been waiting and hoping that one day we might see a Firefly revival series. As time goes on, that's just looking more and more unlikely to happen. That doesn't mean we can have more official Firefly stories to enjoy!

Titan Books and Twentieth Century Fox Consumer Products have announced that they are going to develop and publish a range of original new fiction that will tie into the Firefly television series. According to the press release, the books "stand to be official titles within the Firefly canon", and they will be created alongside consulting editor Joss Whedon!

So far, three authors have been announced to be working on this new series of books. They include New York Times bestsellers Nancy Holder (Buffy, Angel), Tim Lebbon (Cabin in the Woods, 30 Days of Night) and James Lovegrove (Age of Odin).

Each story will explore a different avenue of the original series universe and history, allowing fans to explore new adventures with fan favourite characters. Here are the details that have been released on the first three books:

Captain Malcolm Reynolds finds himself in a dangerous situation after being kidnapped by a bunch of embittered veteran Browncoats in Nancy Holder’s Firefly: Big Damn Hero (October 2018), while in James Lovegrove’s Firefly: The Magnificent Nine (March 2019) Jayne receives a distress call from his ex Temperance McCloud that leads the Serenity crew to danger on a desert moon. Finally in Tim Lebbon’s Firefly: Generations (October 2019) the discovery of the location of one of the legendary Ark ships that brought humans from Earth-that-was to the ’Verse promises staggering salvage potential, but at what cost? River Tam thinks she might know…

When talking about his new series, Commissioning Editor Cat Camacho said that she is "delighted to be bringing new, official stories to fans of a show that has continued to grow in popularity over the years, finding new audiences in an unprecedented way. Firefly is a hugely unique IP and Titan Books is excited to be becoming part of its legacy."

This is exciting news and I'm definitely looking forward to jumping back into the Firefly universe with these new stories that are coming!
