First EVIL DEAD BURN Reactions Promise a "Relentlessly Savage Bloodbath" That Pushes the Franchise to New Extremes
I was hoping that Evil Dead Burn would crank the horror and brutality to another level, and now the first wave of reactions have hit social media and I’m excited about what critics are saying!
The first social media reactions for the latest chapter in the Evil Dead franchise have landed, and they paint a picture of a horror movie that goes all in on terror, violence, and pure nightmare fuel. Early responses have been overwhelmingly positive, with critics describing the film as "sick," "insane," "grotesque," and "savage."
Of course, early social media reactions should always be taken with a grain of salt, but it's hard to ignore the excitement when there isn't even a hint of a major complaint floating around. If these first impressions are any indication, horror fans could be in for one of the franchise's most unforgettable entries yet.
The trailers have hinted that this movie would take audiences into some seriously disturbing territory, and critics are saying that's exactly what happens.
If excessive gore and brutal violence aren't your thing, Evil Dead Burn probably isn't going to win you over. But if you're looking for a movie that's ready to leave audiences squirming in their seats, this sounds like it delivers exactly that.
Much of the praise is being directed toward Sébastien Vaniček, who apparently brings his own style to the franchise while embracing everything fans expect from an Evil Dead movie.
Critics have highlighted his creative use of sound and his willingness to lean into the violence and disturbing imagery that define the series. As horror continues to thrive on the big screen, it sounds like Evil Dead Burn could be another major victory for the genre.
Vaniček previously explained the approach he wanted to take with the film, saying: "It’s perhaps the least bloody of the Evil Dead films, but undoubtedly the most violent and brutal. Let’s say I’m aiming more for the discomfort of the famous teeth on the sidewalk scene from American History X than excessive gore."
Judging from these first reactions, it sounds like he accomplished exactly what he set out to do. The film unleashes what is being described as the franchise's most savage and terrifying ride yet.
The story follows a grieving woman who, after the death of her husband, seeks comfort with her in-laws at their isolated family home.
That refuge quickly turns into a living nightmare as members of the family begin transforming into Deadites, creating what can only be described as a family reunion from hell. As everything spirals out of control, she discovers that the vows she made in life still carry weight... even after death.
Evil Dead Burn stars Souheila Yacoub, Tandi Wright, Hunter Doohan, Luciane Buchanan, Errol Shand, George Pullar, Maude Davey, and Greta Van Den Brink.
The film was directed by Vaniček from a screenplay by Florent Bernard and Vaniček. It is produced by Rob Tapert and Sam Raimi, with executive producers Romel Adam, Bruce Campbell, Lee Cronin, and Jose Canas.
Based on everything we've heard so far, Evil Dead Burn isn't pulling any punches. If you're a longtime fan of the franchise and you've been hoping for another brutal, nerve-shredding trip into Deadite insanity, this one sounds like it's going to be a wild ride.
Evil Dead Burn opens in theaters on July 10.
