First Footage From Netflix's Live-Action SCOOBY-DOO Series Gives Fans a Glimpse of the Crime-Solving Canine

Netflix has shared the first footage from its upcoming live-action Scooby-Doo series, and fans are getting their first look at the beloved mystery-solving dog in action.

The streaming service shared a short clip on social media featuring Scooby running through the woods near a summer camp. The footage captures a key moment as the young dog has a moment with Shaggy, setting up the friendship that would eventually become one of the most iconic duos in pop culture.

It's only a brief glimpse, but it's enough to give fans an early taste of what Netflix is cooking up with this new take on the franchise.

The series, officially titled Scooby-Doo: Origins, is currently filming in Atlanta and is slated to premiere in 2027.

Netflix is taking audiences back to the beginning with a story that explores how Mystery Inc. first came together. As previously announced, the gang will be played by Maxwell Jenkins as Fred Jones, Tanner Hagen as Norville “Shaggy” Rogers, Abby Ryder Fortson as Velma Dinkley, and Mckenna Grace as Daphne Blake.

Netflix previously released an early look at the cast in April, giving fans their first peek at the young versions of the legendary mystery-solvers.

The cast also includes Paul Walter Hauser, though details regarding his character remain under wraps.

According to the official synopsis, the story centers on a mystery that begins during one unforgettable summer:

“During their final summer at camp, old friends Shaggy (Hagen) and Daphne (Grace) get embroiled in a haunting mystery surrounding a lonely lost Great Dane puppy that may have been a witness to a supernatural murder.

“Together with the pragmatic and scientific townie, Velma (Fortson), and the strange, but ever so handsome new kid, Freddy (Jenkins), they set out to solve the case that is pulling each of them into a creepy nightmare that threatens to expose all of their secrets.”

That sounds like it's leaning into a darker and more suspenseful style while still embracing the core ingredients that have made Scooby-Doo a fan favorite for generations.

A summer camp setting, supernatural murder mystery, hidden secrets, and the formation of Mystery Inc. feels like a solid foundation for a fresh live-action adaptation.

The series comes from writers and showrunners Josh Appelbaum and Scott Rosenberg, who will also executive produce alongside André Nemec, Jeff Pinkner, and Adrienne Erickson through Midnight Radio. Toby Haynes will direct the first episode and also serve as an executive producer. The project is being produced by Warner Bros. Television.

It's still early days for Scooby-Doo: Origins, but seeing Scooby himself finally make his debut is sure to get longtime fans excited. The footage may be short, but after years of animated adventures and multiple live-action adaptations, it's fun to see the next generation of Mystery Inc. starting to take shape.

Now we just have to wait until 2027 to see where this mystery leads.
