First Footage From RESIDENT EVIL: WELCOME TO RACCOON CITY; Full Trailer Is Coming Tormorrow
Sony Pictures and Screen Gems released a little promo teaser for the upcoming live-action film Resident Evil: Welcome to Raccoon City. This promo shows some of the first footage from the film and it is announcing that a full trailer is being unleashed tomorrow.
The movie being helmed by Johannes Roberts (47 Meters Down, The Strangers: Prey at Night), and I’m actually really excited about the movie! The film is going to tell an origin story that will have “faithful ties to Capcom’s classic survival horror games.” Resident Evil: Welcome to Raccoon City takes place on a fateful night in Raccoon City in 1998 and it will adapt elements from the first two games in the franchise. Here’s the synopsis for the film:
Once the booming home of pharmaceutical giant Umbrella Corporation, Raccoon City is now a dying Midwestern town. The company’s exodus left the city a wasteland…with great evil brewing below the surface. When that evil is unleashed, the townspeople are forever…changed…and a small group of survivors must work together to uncover the truth behind Umbrella and make it through the night.
When previously talking about the film, Roberts said:
“With this movie, I really wanted to go back to the original first two games and recreate the terrifying visceral experience I had when I first played them whilst at the same time telling a grounded human story about a small dying American town that feels both relatable and relevant to today’s audiences.”
I think Roberts is on the right path with this reboot of the film franchise. This is the kind of Resident Evil movie that I want to see! While I enjoyed the first movie that starred Milla Jovovich, I think this one is going to be much better as it’s more faithful to the game franchise.
