First Full Trailer for STAR TREK BEYOND Is Slick as Hell
The first full trailer for Star Trek Beyond has hit the Internet, and it basically looks like the rebooted Star Trek franchise mated with Fast and Furious, which is pretty apropos, because it’s the newest film in the rebooted Star Trek franchise and it was directed by Fast and Furious director Justin Lin. I’m not complaining. It looks slick as hell and really fun, but Star Trek purists who thought Into Darkness had too much action may not be thrilled.
If you like the new Trek though, you are going to love this preview. It has Spock calling things illogical, Captain Kirk doubting himself, Bones being skeptical about space, Scotty doing things frantically, Uhura fronting tough, et cetera. My only real complaint is that Idris Elba is totally unrecognizable. Why would you cast that face and then cover it up?!
The trailer premiered tonight at a fan event for the film where they also announced that Star Trek Beyond will have its world premiere on July 20 at San Diego Comic-Con on the first ever outdoor IMAX screen. There will also be a live orchestra, in case you needed another reason to want to be there. I don't know how you get tickets for that, but good hell, that line is going to be long.
Anyway, watch the trailer yourself and then start counting the days until the film's release on July 22. The movie stars Chris Pine, Zachary Quinto, Simon Pegg, Karl Urban, Zoe Saldana, John Cho, Anton Yelchin, Idris Elba, and franchise newcomer Sofia Boutella. Below the trailer is a new poster for the film, which comes from Collider.
