First Images Released For Dreamworks Animation's New SHE-RA Netflix Series
Netflix has released a collection of images giving us our first look at Dreamworks Animation's new series She-Ra and the Princesses of Power. The new series certainly has its own style and I'm sure it will work with what they are doing, but it's still very different from the cartoons and animation style that we grew up with.
The images show off several main characters from the upcoming series, including Adora and the titular She-Ra voiced by Aimee Carrero (Elena of Avalor), Glimmer voiced by Karen Fukuhara (Suicide Squad), Bow voiced by Marcus Scribner (black-ish), and Catra voiced by AJ Michalka (The Goldbergs). Then there's another image shows off Bright Moon Castle, the capital of Etheria and home-base to the Rebellion.
She-Ra and the Princesses of Power is the story of an orphan named Adora (Carrero), who leaves behind her former life in the evil Horde when she discovers a magic sword that transforms her into the mythical warrior princess She-Ra. Along the way, she finds a new family in the Rebellion as she unites a group of magical princesses in the ultimate fight against evil.
The series is described as a modern take on the ‘80s girl power icon for a new generation of young fans. It's being developed by Eisner Award-winning author and executive producer Noelle Stevenson (Lumberjanes, Nimona) and executive producer Chuck Austen (Dawn of the Croods, Steven Universe). Stevenson previously talked about the series saying:
"I was always looking for the female characters in sci-fi and fantasy who were more than just the girlfriend. I love the female characters in She–Ra. There isn’t another show quite like it."
"She–Ra was ahead of its time. I’m so excited to bring these stories of female power and love and friendship back now when it seems like we need them more than ever."
I hope the series turns out good because I know it's something that my girls would very much be into. After you look at the images, let us know what you think of the style and if this looks like a series you might enjoy checking out.
The new series is being produced at DreamWorks Animation and it will also feature the voices of Grey’s Anatomy alum Sandra Oh, Orange Is the New Black‘s Lorraine Toussaint, black-ish‘s Marcus Scribner, Dancing With the Stars champ Jordan Fisher, and Young & Hungry‘s Aimee Carrero.
The series is set to premiere on November 16th.
