First Look at Ava DuVernay's Series Adaptation of Vertigo's DMZ For HBO Max with Rosario Dawson

Director Ava DuVernay (Selma) has shared a few first-look photos from her upcoming limited series adaptation of Vertigo’s comic book, DMZ. They show off Rosario Dawson in the role of Alma, along with Benjamin Bratt as Parco Delgado and Freddy Miyares as Skel.

DMZ was created by Brian Wood and Riccardo Burchielli and The four-part miniseries takes place in a near-future “where an American civil war has left Manhattan a demilitarized zone that is isolated from the rest of the world. The story follows a female medic who is desperately searching for her lost son in the DMZ while contending with gangs, militias, and warlords all the while saving lives along the way.”

Dawson’s Alma is described as “a fierce medic who saves lives while desperately searching for her lost son. As she contends with the gangs, militias, demagogues, and warlords who now control the lawless island, she becomes the unlikely source of what everyone there has lost: hope.”

Robert Patino (Westworld, Sons of Anarchy, Fear Street) serves as showrunner and executive producer of the series. DuVernay will direct and executive produce with Patino.
