First Look at Aya Cash as Stormfront in THE BOYS Season 2 and New Details
A crazy storm is coming to Amazon’s The Boys Season 2 in the form of a new character named Stormfront. The character is originally a man in the comics, but the series is switching things up, and they’ve cast Aya Cash (You’re the Worst ) in the role. Thanks to EW, we have our first look at her all decked out in her costume along with some new details that tease what we can expect from the character.
Antony Starr, who plays Homelander, the sociopathic leader of the secretly corrupt superhero team, the Seven, said, “She’s the grenade that gets thrown into Homelander’s world and the world of the Seven. She really causes me so many problems."
Stormfront was originally created to be “a riff on Thor and Shazam! with a little Nazism thrown in.” Cash explains that her character comes into the story with her own agenda explaining:
“I think Stormfront is like a nuclear bomb that goes off in the Seven. Maybe nuclear bomb isn’t the right word. We’re in Chernobyl. There you go. It’s a Chernobyl thing. I think she’s here to blow up Vought. She’s here to try to get Vought back to the original idea behind creating superheroes... And she can be quite the feminist. There’s a lot of, I wouldn’t say misdirect, but she also is a very empowered woman.”
Starr goes on to say that this next season of The Boys is “all about destabilization.” And bringing Stormfront into the mix will “disrupt the status quo.” He explains, “She’s really social-media-savvy, where Homelander doesn’t really have anything to do with that. Someone else is always running his accounts. He’s almost like a Don Draper-era character and she’s very young and new and fresh, and that’s a massive challenge for him.”
Stormfront also is a threat to Homelander’s ego as she isn’t afraid to step up and challenge him. Stormfront has plasma bolt capabilities and Cash says:
“[He’s] used to everyone being scared of him. She matches him. That’s not to say she doesn’t understand his power and tiptoe around it sometimes, but she’s also willing to challenge him. Ultimately, I think the dynamic between the two is terrifying and will change who Homelander is.”
Cash goes on to explain that when the season starts off, the audience will start off thinking she’s one thing and then discover that she’s something else.
“There are quite a few times where you’ll identify with her as an audience member or agree with what she says. I think [those] are the most dangerous people.”
The first season of The Boys was absolutely insane! I enjoyed the hell out of it and I’m excited to see how this story arc involving Stormfront is going to play out. What are your thoughts on Stormfront and how the series is handling the character?
