First Look at Ben Mendelsohn as The Sheriff of Nottingham in ROBIN HOOD

We’ve all heard the tale of Robin Hood. A man that steals from the rich and gives to the poor. He’s become a folk hero and has more movies than you can count. We’ve seen a couple of pictures of Taron Egerton from Kingsman as the titular character for director Otto Bathurst’s Robin Hood. We’ve also seen a picture of Jamie Foxx as Little John. The costuming has seemed slightly odd, but overall I wasn’t too bothered. Then I saw the latest pictures from the film.

Color me confused. Look at this picture to see what I mean.

That looks like a more medieval time piece. The new photos that show us Ben Mendelsohn’s Sheriff of Nottingham (and the new picture of Robin) look like they’re from a very different movie. Mendelsohn looks like he’s from a sci-fi film and possibly a dystopian one at that. Not to mention the guards behind him. The helmets and gauntlets and pauldrons seem to fit while the rest of the “armor” looks like modern police and SWAT body armor. Then we get to the assault rifles that they appear to be carrying. I knew this movie was going to be a “gritty retelling” of the story, but now I’m confused. I think Foxx can best set our expectations in this interview with Entertainment Weekly:

It was directed by Otto Bathurst, who shot Peaky Blinders. The way they shot it was crazy, it looks like you’re watching Zero Dark Thirty. We’re shooting with our bows, but they computer-generated it so it’s rapid-fire, almost like an AK. I saw that and was like ‘Oh, they ain’t ready for this.’

I think this film is going to be highly interesting and I’m glad they released these photos so that I don’t get thrown off mid-movie. Robin Hood is set to release September 21, 2018. What do you think of these new photos? Are you ready for this film?
