First Look at BREAKING BEAR: Brendan Fraser and Sarah Michelle Gellar Lead a Wild Animated Crime Comedy

Here’s our first look at Breaking Bear, the new adult animated series is being described as Yogi Bear meets The Sopranos, and the early art gives fans a peek at the offbeat bear crime family at the center of this wild new show.

The series features a voice cast led by Brendan Fraser, Sarah Michelle Gellar, Annie Murphy, Elizabeth Hurley, and Josh Gad. The reveal follows the show’s panel at New York Comic Con, where fans got their first taste of what’s shaping up to be one of the most bizarre and ambitious animated comedies in years.

According to the official synopsis, Breaking Bear is “a fur-flying, law-breaking, forest-saving rampage following a dysfunctional family of bears who go full criminal to stop frackers, mobsters, and a psychotic wolf pack from destroying their home.

“As they spiral deeper into the criminal abyss, they face off against biker gangs, an egomaniacal news anchor, and their own spectacular talent for self-sabotage.”

Fraser, Gellar, and Gad voice Jer, Blair, and Alistair, three bear siblings who find themselves caught up in a world of organized crime. Hurley brings her signature bite to the role of Wolf Queen, the bears’ menacing rival, while Murphy plays Tawny, a human news anchor caught in the chaos.

The internet’s reaction has been a mix of confusion and curiosity. One fan joked, “Brendan Fraser and Sarah Michelle Gellar in an animated crime family of bears sounds like a fever dream nobody asked for but I’m low-key here for it.”

Another chimed in with, “This sounds like something AI wrote during a mental breakdown and Hollywood actually greenlit it.”

Tubi’s chief content officer Adam Lewinson called the show “our wild, no-holds-barred send-up of classic mob sagas – from Scarface to Goodfellas – as a dysfunctional crew of bears crash headfirst into the world of crime, all in a desperate bid to save their forest. It’s bold, it’s chaotic, and we’re here for every outrageous second.”

If you’ve ever wondered what The Sopranos would look like in the animal kingdom, Breaking Bear might just have your answer. With this kind of talent behind it and a premise this unhinged, it’s bound to grab attention when it premieres on Tubi in March 2026.
