First Look at Claes Bang as DRACULA in Steven Moffat's Upcoming BBC/Netflix Series
It was previously announced that the Sherlock producing team, Steven Moffat and Mart Gattis, would be developing a new Dracula series for the BBC and Netflix. Claes Bang (The Girl in the Spider’s Web) was cast in the role of the legendary vampire and today we have our first look at him in the role and he looks pretty good!
The series is based on Bram Stoker’s classic novel, and the story for the series will be set in 1897. It will revolve around the “blood-drinking count from Transylvania who sets his sights on Victorian London.”
When talking about being cast in the role of Dracula, Bang said:
“I am thrilled to be taking on the role of Dracula, especially when the script is in the hands of the incredible talents of Steven Moffat, Mark Gatiss and the team responsible for Sherlock. I’m so excited that I get to dig into this iconic and super-interesting character. Yes, he’s evil, but there’s also so much more to him, he’s charismatic, intelligent, witty and sexy. I realize that there’s a lot to live up to with all the amazing people that have played him over the years, but I feel so privileged, to be taking on this incredible character.”
The creators of the series, who will be writing the 90-minute episodes, talked about why they cast Claes in a joint statement, saying:
“It was one of those moments — who else could it be than Claes. He has it all. Brilliant, gorgeous, charismatic, lethal. Tall, dark and gruesome all at once.”
The creative team behind Dracula did an incredible job with Sherlock , and I can’t wait to see what they end up delivering for their Dracula series! What do you think of the first look at Dracula?
