Extended Look at Disneyland's Incredible Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge Animatronic Hondo Ohnaka
Last weekend at Star Wars Celebration in Chicago, we were shown many cool new things. We got to see trailers, clips, characters, and props. One cool new thing was some footage from the new land at Disneyland, Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge, which will be an immersive land in which you will be able to choose a side and path to follow while you ride the rides, meet the characters, and hang out in the cantina.
The video below shows the voice-animatronic Hondo Ohnaka, a character from Star Wars Rebels and Star Wars: The Clone Wars, greeting guests as they come into “Star Wars: Smuggler’s Run, one of two premiere E-ticket attractions that sees riders pilot the Millennium Falcon.”
Hondo definitely looks awesome and more lifelike than the characters we’ve seen at Disneyland in the past. Disney said in a video in February while they were working on Hondo, that the robot looks so realistic because “the newly standardized system “incorporates new electric functionality, replacing former hydraulic functions, producing extremely realistic, lifelike movement.” In the future, other figures replicating human form can utilize the system to “ensure the same degree of realism and advanced levels of movement.”
Disney is always making things better and more cutting edge than before. Enjoy the video below and let us know when you plan on going to see Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge in person at Disneyland Park!
