First Look at Helen Mirren in Full Costume on Set of DC's SHAZAM! FURY OF THE GODS
Some new photos from the set of DC’s Shazam! Fury of the Gods have surfaced, and they give us our first look at Helen Mirren as the villainous character Hespera, who is a daughter of Atlas. As you can she is is fully decked out in her costume, which is a dark bronze armor.
This character Hespera doesn’t exist in the DC Comics universe, but it’s explained that Atlas, her father, “is the name of several DC Comics characters inspired by the Titan of Ancient Greek mythology, the most famous and enduring version created by the legendary Jack Kirby in 1975.”
It’s also said that she is a part of a group of “sisters who may or may not be of ill intent.” The other sisters include franchise newcomers Lucy Liu and Rachel Zegler.
David F. Sandberg is directing the film, and it also stars Asher Angel and Zachary Levi as Billy Batson and Shazam!; Jack Dylan Grazer and Adam Brody as Freddy; Faithe Herman and Meagan Good as Darla; Ian Chen and Ross Bulter as Eugene; Jovan Arman and D.J. Cotrona as Pedro; Grace Fulton, who plays Mary; Marta Milans, and Cooper Andrews. You can get a look at all these characters in costume here.
Shazam! Fury of the Gods will continue the story of teenage Billy Batson, who upon reciting the magic word “SHAZAM!” is struck by the Living Lightning of the gods and transformed into his adult superhero alter ego, Shazam. He has the powers of six gods: the wisdom of Solomon, the strength of Hercules, the stamina of Atlas, the power of Zeus, the courage of Achilles, and the speed of Mercury.
Shazam! Fury of the Gods is currently set to be released on June 2, 2023.
