First Look at Jean Grey in X-MEN: DARK PHOENIX and New Plot Details
Thanks to the latest cover of EW magazine, we have our first official look at Sofie Turner as Jean Grey in director Simon Kinberg's X-Men: Dark Phoenix. As you can see, the Phoenix is rising within her. It's an exciting first look at what we can expect to see visually in the film.
In addition to the photo, EW also shared some plot details for the film:
Set in 1992, about 10 years after the events of last year’s X-Men: Apocalypse, Dark Phoenix opens with the X-Men, including Mystique (Jennifer Lawrence), Beast (Nicholas Hoult), Storm (Alexandra Shipp), Nightcrawler (Kodi Smit-McPhee), and Quicksilver (Evan Peters), in a new, unexpected role: national heroes. Charles Xavier (James McAvoy) even lands on the cover of Time magazine. But his growing ego puts the team at risk.
Kinberg goes on to explain, “Pride is starting to get the better of him, and he is pushing the X-Men to more extreme missions.” The outlet then goes on to reveal:
After they’re dispatched to space for a rescue mission, a solar flare hits the X-Jet and the surge of energy ignites a malevolent, power-hungry new force within Jean (Game of Thrones’ Sophie Turner)— the Phoenix.
It's also said that the film will include "a massive twist halfway through that will irrevocably change the course of the franchise." James McAvoy goes on to say:
“This is probably the most emotional X-Men we’ve done and the most pathos-driven. There’s a lot of sacrifice and a lot of suffering.”
We do have an idea of what is going to happen to evoke such strong emotions thanks to some previously released details regarding Jean Grey's dark descent. You can read about that here if you want.
I'm actually excited about this next chapter of the X-Men franchise. What do you think about our first look at Jean Grey in the film and are you looking forward to seeing how this story plays out on the big screen?
