First Look at Kate Winslet's Na'vi Warrior Character in AVATAR: THE WAY OF WATER and New Details
Thanks to Empire, we have our first look at the Na’vi character Kate Winslet is playing in James Cameron’s Avatar: The Way of Water. The last time these two talents worked together was on Titanic! You can see a photo of her character above.
Not too long ago, we got a teaser trailer for this sequel, and as we all expected, the movie looks visually stunning. The big question remains, are audiences hungry and excited for more Avatar?
The sequel is set more than a decade after the events of the first film. It “begins to tell the story of the Sully family (Jake, Neytiri, and their kids), the trouble that follows them, the lengths they go to keep each other safe, the battles they fight to stay alive, and the tragedies they endure.
“Winslet is playing a Na’vi warrior named Ronal (pronounced ‘Ro-nail’) and the image also features Cliff Curtis’ Tonowari. It’s explained that Ronal “leads the Metkayina tribe, who dwell in the shallows of Pandora’s vast oceans – and will play a major part in the upcoming adventure.”
When talking about her character, Winslet shared some new details, saying: “She is deeply loyal and a fearless leader. She is strong. A warrior. Even in the face of grave danger, and with an unborn baby on board, she still joins her people and fights for what she holds most dear. Her family and their home.”
Winslet also trained to hold her breath for long periods of time to shoot the film. Her record was “Seven minutes and 14 seconds, baby!” She adds that “the most amazing thing for me as a middle-aged woman was to learn something not just new, but superhuman.”
Avatar: The Way of Water hits theaters on December 14th, 2022.
