First Look at Kiefer Sutherland Reprising His Role as Nelson Wright in New FLATLINERS Promo Spot

The only aspect of this upcoming Flatliners reboot that I'm interested in is seeing Kiefer Sutherland reprise his role from the original 1990 movie. He played a character named Nelson Write in the film and he was the ringleader who started experimenting with death with his friends and colleagues. When talking about his character, Sutherland previously told Metro U.K.:

“I play a professor at the medical university. It is never stated but it will probably be very clearly understood that I’m the same character I was in the original Flatliners but that I have changed my name and I’ve done some things to move on from the experiments that we were doing in the original film.
“I loved making the first film and when I was asked if I would be interested in taking part in this, it didn’t take more than a minute to say yes.”

I wonder how big of a role he will have in the film and it will be interesting to see how the events of the first film affected his life. Remember, he brought one of his sins back from his past, and little Billy Mahoney kicked the living shit out of him.

I would have actually been more interested in a sequel that brings all the original characters back together that were played by Kevin Bacon, Julia Roberts, William Baldwin, and Oliver Platt. Like the effects of what they did had some kind of crazy ripple effect in their lives.

The reboot stars Ellen Page (Inception), Diego Luna (Rogue One: A Star Wars Story), Nina Dobrev (The Vampire Diaries), James Norton (Happy Valley) and Kiersey Clemens (Neighbors 2: Sorority Rising).

In Flatliners, five medical students, hoping to gain insight into the mystery of what lies beyond the confines of life, embark on a daring and dangerous experiment. By stopping their hearts for short periods of time, each triggers a near-death experience. As the investigation becomes more and more perilous, they are forced to confront the sins of their pasts, as well as contend with the paranormal consequences of trespassing to the other side.

Flatliners is being directed by Niels Arden Oplev, who directed the original Swedish version of The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo. It will be released on September 29th.
