First Look at Rian Johnson's GLASS ONION: A KNIVES OUT MYSTERY and Netflix Premiere Date
A couple of photos have surfaced from director Rian Johnson‘s upcoming murder-mystery film Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery, which is a sequel to his fantastic film Knives Out. It was also announced that the movie will be released on Netflix on December 23rd, 2022. The movie will also be released in select theaters, but that theatrical release date has yet to be announced.
In Glass Onion, “Detective Benoit Blanc travels to Greece to peel back the layers of a mystery involving a new cast of colorful suspects.” It’s also been explained that the movie will peel back some of the layers on Blanc himself.
Daniel Craig is back as Benoit Blanc in the sequel, and the rest of the cast includes Dave Bautista, Edward Norton, Jessica Henwick, Kathryn Hahn, Leslie Odom Jr., Janelle Monáe, Madelyn Cline, and Kate Hudson.
The photo above features all the main cast members gathered around a table. The second image below features director Rian Johnson talking to Janelle Monáe (Moonlight, Hidden Figures) on the set of the film during production.
Johnson recently took to Twitter to talk about Agatha Christie’s whodunnit storytelling style. Christie’s novels serve as the inspiration behind these Knives out films.
“Something I love about Agatha Christie is how she never tread water creatively. I think there’s a misperception that her books use the same formula over and over, but fans know the opposite is true. It wasn’t just settings or murder methods, she was constantly stretching the genre conceptually. Under the umbrella of the whodunnit she wrote spy thrillers, proto-slasher horrors, serial killer hunts, gothic romances, psychological character studies, glam travelogues. When I made Knives Out, that’s what excited me about the prospect of making more mysteries with Daniel as Benoit Blanc – to emulate Christie and have every film be like a whole new book, with its own tone, ambition, reason for being… and (ta dah) title.”
I thought Knives Out was great, and I’m looking forward to watching this next film in the franchise!
