First Look at Sophie Turner as Lara Croft in TOMB RAIDER Series
Production is officially underway on Prime Video’s upcoming Tomb Raider series, and Amazon MGM Studios has kicked things off with a first-look image revealing Sophie Turner suited up as Lara Croft, marking the first time the actress has stepped into the iconic adventurer’s boots for the new live-action adaptation.
The image was released alongside confirmation that cameras are now rolling on the series, which is being produced by Amazon MGM Studios in partnership with Story Kitchen and Crystal Dynamics. The costume leans into the classic look fans know.
The project was greenlit in 2024 and is based on the legendary Tomb Raider franchise that has defined action-adventure gaming for decades.
The story follows Lara Croft, a brilliant archaeologist whose thirst for discovery constantly pulls her into dangerous and ancient mysteries.
Turner, best known for her work on Game of Thrones, landed the role after a lengthy and competitive casting process. She’s joined by an ensemble cast that includes Sigourney Weaver, Jason Isaacs, Martin Bobb-Semple, Jack Bannon, John Heffernan, Bill Paterson, Paterson Joseph, Sasha Luss, Juliette Motamed, Celia Imrie, and August Wittgenstein.
Creative control is in the hands of Phoebe Waller-Bridge, who serves as creator, writer, executive producer, and co-showrunner. She’s paired with Chad Hodge, who also co-showruns and executive produces. Directing duties fall to Jonathan Van Tulleken, who is also on board as an executive producer.
With production now underway and a strong creative team in place, it’s going to be interesting to see how this Tomb Raider turns out. This first look at Sophie Turner as Lara Croft feels like a solid step in the right direction.
