Studio Ghibli is making the jump into CG animation with their very first CG animated film Aye And The Witch, and today we have our first look at the film! The studio shared six images on the official website (Via: IGN), and they show off some of the colorful characters that will be a part of the story.

I love that the CG animation style is a perfect representation of the visual style that we’ve come to know and love about the the films of Studio Ghibli.

Hayao Miyazaki’s son Goro Miyazaki is directing the film. He previously helmed Tales From Earthsea and From Up On Poppy Hill. The film is based on Diana Wynne Jones' children's book Earwig and the Witch, which was released in 2011. The official description for the film reads:

Not every orphan would love living at St. Morwald's Home for Children, but Earwig does. She gets whatever she wants, whenever she wants it, and it's been that way since she was dropped on the orphanage doorstep as a baby. But all that changes the day Bella Yaga and the Mandrake come to St. Morwald's, disguised as foster parents. Earwig is whisked off to their mysterious house full of invisible rooms, potions, and spell books, with magic around every corner. Most children would run in terror from a house like that . . . but not Earwig. Using her own cleverness—with a lot of help from a talking cat—she decides to show the witch who's boss.

I’m looking forward to watching this movie, which is tentatively set to be released later this year.
