First Look at Taika Waititi as Hitler in His WWII Satire Film JOJO RABBIT
Here's the first photo from the upcoming World War II satire film Jojo Rabbit, which comes from Thor: Ragnarok director Taika Waititi. This photo offers our first look at the director who is also taking on the role of an imaginary Hitler in the film. The image also features Scarlett Johansson and Roman Griffin as Jojo.
The story centers on "a young boy (Griffin) who longs to be part of the Hitler Youth and whose imaginary friend is Adolf Hitler. He discovers a Jewish girl living in his attic, and after initially trying to find ways to get rid of her, begins to see her as human."
The photo came along with the following caption, "Possibly the weirdest dinner I've ever been to." He previously had this to say about playing Hitler in the film, "What better way to insult Hitler than having him portrayed by a Polynesian Jew?" When he first started shooting the film, the filmmaker said:
"We’ve assembled an incredible cast and I couldn’t be more excited to finally ridicule Nazis and their beliefs. This film is going to piss off a lot of racists and that makes me very happy."
It sounds like Waititi is going to have a lot of fun making this movie. At the same time, he is looking to make an important statement with it.
Scarlett Johansson plays Jojo’s mother, a woman who is secretly working for the resistance. Sam Rockwell will play a Nazi captain who runs a Hitler Youth camp. Rebel Wilson will play a character named Fraulein Rahm, who is a brutish instructor in the Hitler Youth Camp the young man has just been recruited to attend. The lesson that she teaches the children is that Jews are the embodiment of mythical creatures.
I'm intrigued by everything I've learned and seen from this film and I can't wait to see how it turns out.
