First Look at the Addams Family in Tim Burton's Netflix Series WEDNESDAY
Thanks to Vanity Fair, we have a first look at The Addams Family together in Tim Burton’s upcoming Netflix series, Wednesday. The new photos features Jenna Ortega (Scream, X) as Wednesday Addams, Luis Guzmán as Gomez, Catherine Zeta-Jones as Morticia, and Isaac Ordonez as Pugsley Addams.
Wednesday is a twisted coming of age comedy series about “a sleuthing, supernaturally infused mystery charting Wednesday Addams’ years as a student at Nevermore Academy. Wednesday’s attempts to master her emerging psychic ability, thwart a monstrous killing spree that has terrorized the local town, and solve the supernatural mystery that embroiled her parents 25 years ago — all while navigating her new and very tangled relationships at Nevermore.”
The eight-episode series was written by Smallville creators Al Gough and Miles Millar, and Burton will direct. All three of them will also serve as showrunners on the series and executive producers.
Miller explained in an interview that the ambition of the show “was to make it an 8-hour Tim Burton movie.” When talking about the character Wednesday Gough explains, “Despite their macabre natures, the Addams Family has always displayed a relentless cheerfulness and enthusiasm. This is exhausting for Wednesday. Wednesday's not scared of sharks or creepy crawlies or anything, but she's afraid of emotion. Their overt displays of affection drive Wednesday crazy.”
When it comes to the relationship between Wednesday and her brother Pugsley, Miller says: “She's allowed to torture him. Nobody else is. That's the difference. She will defend him to the end against bullies or anything else, but she has license to do what she wants. She's protective of him in a very Wednesday way. Every family is weird and this one happens to be extremely weird, but they love each other. And that's ultimately what it's about. They always have each other's backs and that's unconditional love.”
The series also stars Gwendoline Christie, Hunter Doohan, Percy Hynes White, Joy Sunday, Emma Myers, Riki Lindhome, Jamie McShane, Georgie Farmer, Naomi Ogawa, and Moosa Mostafa. Christina Ricci will also appear in the show, playing a brand new role.
The series will be released this Halloween season!
