First Look at Willem Defoe and Robert Pattinson's THE LIGHTHOUSE From The Director of THE WITCH

If you are a fan of the horror film The Witch, there’s a new film coming out that you’re going to want to check out. Director Robert Eggers has directed a new historical horror film called The Lighthouse and today we have our first look at that film and its stars Willem Dafoe and Robert Pattinson

The film is set in 1890 and the two actors play lighthouse keepers. While we don’t know much about the story, we do know that the story is set in Nova Scotia in the world of sea-faring myths and Dafoe plays an aging lighthouse keeper, named Old.

Eggers shot the film in black and white and there’s no doubt that he’s going to give this film the same attention to detail that he gave The Witch. You can see in this photo that was shared. That’s one of the things I loved about The Witch so much. That’s such a masterfully made horror movie and I can’t wait to see this next project of his!

When previously talking about the script for the film, Pattinson said:

This new script blew us away — it creates a totally unique and ambitious universe and manages to somehow feel scary, suspenseful, wondrous and beautiful all at the same time.

Pattinson also talked about the harsh mood while working on the film. Defoe and Pattinson hardly talked with each other off screen and Pattinson came very close to punching Eggers while shooting! When talking to Interview Magazine, Pattinson said, “That’s the closest I’ve come to punching a director.” He went on to say:

“However much I love Robert [Eggers], there was a point where I did five takes walking across the beach, and after a while I was like, ‘What the fuck is going on? I feel like you’re just spraying a fire hose in my face.’ And he was like, ‘I am spraying a fire hose in your face.’ It was like some kind of torture. It definitely creates an interesting energy.”

There’s no official release date yet, but the movie will premiere next month at the Cannes Film Festival.
