New Photo For Marvel's AGATHA ALL ALONG and Details on How The Witches Will Be Explored
Marvel has released a new image from Agatha All Along which sees Kathryn Hahn reprising her role as the titular witch, Agatha Harkness.
In the series Agatha is joined by “a disparate, mixed bag of witches” and those witches include Patti LuPone’s Lilia, Sasheer Zamata’s Jennifer, Debra Jo Rupp’s Sharon, and Ali Ahn’s Alice.
Series creator Jeff Schaeffer offered some insight into these witches in an interview with Empire, saying: “What they have in common is that they’re covenless witches.”
He continued: “Witches are defined by deception, treachery, villainy and selfishness. What do you do when you have a group of witches who [demonstrate] those notions and you need them to work together?”
Well, I imagine a lot of chaos magic. Schaeffer went on to talk about the series saying: “[Where] WandaVision played with the form of classic TV sitcoms, [here] we do a lot of playing with what the assumptions about witches are.
Schaeffer explains: “Like, what are the shorthand visuals for witches? We certainly didn’t want a one-dimensional nasty witch. We will have moments where we see Agatha’s true heart.”
Agatha is described as a “dark comedy” in the MCU. When we last saw Agatha, she attempted to take Wanda Maximoff’s magic for herself, and Wanda trapped her in the “Agnes” persona.
The description for the first episode of the show reads, “In the first episode we see Agatha Harkness (Kathryn Hahn) finally break out of a spell she has been trapped in.
“She can’t wait to go back to her old murderous ways only to find that she is powerless. The only way forward for her is to embark on a perilous quest to get her powers back with the help of an unlikely friend or two.”
Hahn previously talked about returning to play this character, saying: "I wish I could tell you anything. I can tell you that it's pretty fan- fabulous, I'm going to say that, I was going to say fantastic, but then I decided to go with fabulous."
She added: "It's an amazing cast. I’m in awe of everyone’s work in this show and I think people are going to be surprised. I don't - I think they're gonna think it's one way and, of course, it's gonna go a million different avenues kinda like WandaVision."
The series also stars Aubrey Plaza as Rio Vidal, and Sasheer Zamata is playing Jennifer Kale. Joe Locke also appears in the show but is only listed as “Teen”.
The series is set to premiere on Disney+ this September. I image Marvel will show off some footage of the series at Comic-Con next month.
